In all seriousness I'm trying my best in this comic to make Rodney a relatable character because that's the one I want people to grow an attachment to for the next few chapters.
He's artistic, he's got an untreated case of ADHD, his mom was abusive and neglectful, he's a bit depressed and has poor self image. However, things do begin to look up for him once he starts opening up. Sure, not EVERY single problem here is solved, in fact the first two of those aren't problems. It's not just token issues, they actually play into the plot and kinda of knock Jay a bit out of the spotlight. I'm 100% ok with that because I don't like my character stealing the spotlight.
Plus if you get into the nitty grit of the conflict, you'll see that everything that happens, like Jay getting hurt and put on RED, the Medics getting in arguments over ethics, and BLU begging for mercy all lead back to Rodney having problems that are needing to be solved, because they're disrupting daily function.
I hope he grows on a few people at least. He's really grown on me, moreso than before, which is funny because I didn't even make him. My friend Gala did.
